TFV K-Drama Organizational Post

Hello!  This is the organizational post for trying to raise money for a help_japan  bid for a thefourthvine  review of a K-drama.  (Confused Circle people, I don't think any of you watch k-dramas, but you are certainly welcome to pitch in too.)  Please leave a comment with your maximum pledge and suggested dramas/individual episodes.  So far it looks like most people want to do Coffee Prince, but if you have another suggestion please do make your case.  If it turns out we can't come to an agreement, I'd suggest that we bid anyway and offer thefourthvine  her choice of the contestants, but if you feel different please say so in your comment

(I honestly don't care which drama, but would prefer Coffee Prince because I haven't watched that many others. I... don't think Bad Guy would be a good place to start. ALTHOUGH I LOVE IT SO.)

I don't care which episode. I may have to watch all of Coffee Prince (again!) to make up my mind.

It's been a few years since I watched Coffee Prince, but I loved Han Kyul's first love confession (the "man or alien" one). My vote is on episode 10.

My own favourite k-dramas are all historical - Dae Jang Geum, Queen Seonduk, Damo, Iljimae. Ooh, Joseon X-files! I bet TFV would love Joseon X-files. But really I don't mind which drama and if Coffee Prince wins it I'll be happy to track a copy down myself. :-)

Um. I'm wondering whether we can talk TFV into two episodes. Because I ADORE episode 11, but it really, really doesn't make sense without episode 10.

That question came up on the LJ post, and she said, "If the two eps are closely linked, and together they add up to no more than three hours, and they both meet all the listed criteria, I don't see why not!" Since two episodes of Coffee Prince are about 2 1/2 hours, I think we could swing it, especially since we have USD$105 more than the currend highest bid HOLY CRAP. I mean, it's still early days, and the bidding's going to go up more later in the week, but I think we actually stand a chance at winning.

The difficulty then becomes WHICH TWO EPISODES. Because then you start to get into going "Oh, but the one where they're playing in the fountain, like you totally do with your male co-workers AMIRITE is awesome, and then you've got the final ep and then, and then, and then"

Let's face it: Coffee Prince. Almost specifically written for fangirl kinks. Too awesome to choose.

Yeah. My only problem with the later episodes is that k-dramas are hard enough for first-timers to follow when they start from the beginning. Jumping in in the middle? TOTAL CONFUSION.

I especially think it might be important to choose first or early episodes because TVF has problems telling people apart when they share things like hair colour. I'm afraid that a k-drama might overwhelm her, so we might want to do the kindness of giving her an introductory episode. :P

Oh, also. I have a few friends who watch KDrama, I could put a pimping post on my LJ and maybe ask the mods of jdrama over on lj if I can do a post?

Yeah, go for it! The more people we can get, the better, and if we wind up outbidding everyone else by a ridiculous amount, then hey, it's more money for the Red Cross, or whichever charity TFV wants (she didn't specify).

I kind of want to hold off, at least for a few days; I feel like jumping in with a bid of $165 when the current highest bid is $60 would be, um, odd, to say the least. The intimidation factor would be impressive, but placing our bid this early would give other people time to get bidding coalitions organized. I know a lot of people were talking about wanting more Star Trek: TOS reviews. Plus, bidding is open for twelve more days, so we've got a while.

Yeah, payment negotiations are left between the auction winners and the offerers, but the standard thing seems to be to pay however you want, then send confirmation numbers/receipts/screencaps as proof. The main difference here is that instead of getting one receipt, TFV gets six.

Ugh. I have a friend who is living near-ish (100km away from) the nuclear reactors and she says "Oh, I'm not leaving, I'd feel like a rat deserting a sinking ship!"

I pointed out that as far as I was aware, radiation didn't take any notice of your moral character.

God I hope this ends up ok.

I hope your friend stays okay, but I know how she feels; it's the same "screw you, Nature, this is MY HOME" sentiment that leads people in my state to board up the windows, throw hurricane parties, and ride out the storm.

I haven't actually watched any of them myself, I just thought this was a cool idea. I vote Coffee Prince.

I would love to. Time and spoons are very bad right now, but should start to get better from mid-April.

This is going to be epic. I have no objections to doing Coffee Prince, although the IRIS episode you listed is another strong contender, and I think we should keep it in mind in case she offers to do two episodes if the bidding goes high enough.

Yeah, I feel like IRIS is more in TFV's slashy wheelhouse, though Coffee Prince is a more traditionally WTF??? k-drama. Either way, it should be good!

From other discussions, everyone donates seperately and contributes a screenshot of a receipt. Being Australian, I am donating and including a screenshot of two seperate conversion sites (cause I pledged in USD) and then a screenshot of the receipt
